Football:Double joy for western Saints

Wednesday 19th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

GOALS from Scott Quarrell and Joe Murphy helped St Ouen F&SC win the PW Touzel Memorial Trophy last night and complete a Coca-Cola Combination Division II league and cup double.

Steve Pallett’s side, who regained their top flight status at the first attempt this season, defeated St Clement 2-0 at Springfield to win the Touzel for the second time.

Pallett said: ‘We scored two great goals and while it was only 1-0 until ten minutes from the end it was nervous because one mistake and St Clement would have been back in it.

‘The football and commitment from both sides was good and ref Ian Solomon had a good game.

‘Joe Murphy has been a catalyst for us since returning from injury recently and he has helped us finish the season off on a high.

He featured in both goals together with running his heart out throughout.

‘We are looking forward to Division I again after coming down last year.

‘It sounds like a lot of players are on the move next season so it could be a very open Division I championship.

I’ll be happy to to stay up, even if it is by just one point!’ St Clement manager Colin Pack said: ‘We matched St Ouen in all departments except the final third, they created more chances than us and just creating two is not really enough to win a game.

‘But I’ve nothing but praise for my team, they battled really hard against the divisional champions.’ St Clement: Matt Addison; Chris Young, Jason Fraser, James Walton, Daniel Cox; Claude Batista, Ian Farmer, Jamie Fraser, Kieran Hocking; Matt Scriven, Beau Waugh.
