Waterfront hotel boost for Island

NEW confidence is being shown in the Island’s tourism industry as work on a £45-million four-star hotel starts on the waterfront.

Jersey Tourism say the Radisson SAS 195-room hotel is the first internationally branded hotel to be built in the Channel Islands, and it is being constructed using a building method that is new to Jersey.

The ground and first floors of the 195-room hotel have been put together in the past two weeks, as contractors work to a ten-week building schedule.

Using pre-cast concrete panels for the floors and walls and slotting in bathroom pods complete with mirrors, tiles and towel rails, the building is being pieced together like a jigsaw puzzle.

Contractor Camerons estimate that, by using the new method, they have taken nine months off the time-scale they would have needed to build the hotel using traditional methods.
