JERSEY Telecom estimates that 40 per cent of Jersey households now have a broadband internet connection.

Tim Ringsdore, Telecom’s sales and marketing director, said that this puts the Island ‘at the forefront of the broadband revolution’.

Mr Ringsdore added: ‘Over the past three months the customer base has increased at twice the rate seen in the same period last year.

With complementary technologies such as wireless modems making the broadband connection even more useful, we fully expect this strong growth in broadband connections to continue.

At the end of last month Telecom announced that it had installed the Island’s 15,000th broadband connection.

Newtel – which now incorporates Localdial – also reports a major increase in broadband business.
