Mobile masts sites revealed

Thursday 20th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THE location of all the Island’s mobile phone masts has been revealed.

A list of 133 existing and pending mobile transmission sites is published on page seven of today’s JEP following a decision by Planning to make the information public.

Concerns surrounding the possible health risks caused by the sites were raised after Cable & Wireless began to apply for permission to establish a multi-million pound network in the Island.

They argued that if the States were worried about health risks then Jersey Telecom should shut down their network until the issue had been resolved.

Research was then carried out by Health and Social Services into mobile phones and health and a report concluded that all mobile phone base stations should be the subject of planning applications.

Environment Minister Freddie Cohen promised to try to make the list public, and it has now been published on the States, gov.je.
