Paedophile ‘killed by embolism’

Tuesday 25th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

PAEDOPHILE Thomas Hamon (68) died of post-operative complications in hospital after a football injury at the prison, an inquest heard.

At the opening of the inquest, Deputy Viscount Peter de Gruchy said that Home Office pathologist Dr Guyan Fernando, who carried out the post-mortem, said that Ha-mon’s death was caused by a massive pulmonary embolism due to a post-operative leg vein thrombosis from a ruptured kneecap tendon.

Senior investigating officer Acting Det Insp Peter Hewlett told the inquest that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Hamon’s injury, which had purely been an accident and had not been triggered by a third party.

A self-confessed paedophile, Ha-mon was due to be sentenced the day after the injury on 9 April for 12 cases of indecent assault on boys.

These had taken place between 1964 and 1988.
