£200,000 paid to crime victims

VICTIMS of crime received almost £200,000 in compensation last year.
The Criminal Injuries Compensation Board paid out £191,400 after dealing with 73 different applications.
The board, which is made up of lawyers and members of the public, have published their annual report for 2005.
Under the rules for compensation in Jersey, people can claim if they are the victims of violence, or if they are hurt while helping the police or restraining a criminal.
But awards can be reduced because of an applicant’s criminal record or personal history.
