Darts:Ladies battle back to level inter-insular honours
Wednesday 26th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S ladies’ darts team came from behind to win one of the most dramatic inter-insulars in recent years at the Chandler’s Hotel, Guernsey, last Friday night.
Trailing 4-0 in the best of nine competition, their last five players all won, with Tina Carver applying the finishing touch in the ninth and final match 2-1, to bring the trophy home to Jersey.
In contrast the men’s contest, although also a 5-4 result, was over by the end of the seventh when Jersey were 5-2 down with only two matches to play.
Despite the home side’s Rob Davidson beating Eddie Le Bailly in the first match on the oche, Steve Eusebini took the next game, turning around a two-leg deficit to win 3-2 against Jason Allez.
After the next two matches, both won by Guernsey, Bobby Williams beat Mick Ogier to make it 3-2, but if the team were hoping for an inspired fight-back, in similar vein to their women’s team, it was not to be.
Guernsey took the Channel Islands’ title by winning the next two matches and, although Jersey were to have the final say, the inter-insular result was decided.
Other competition: Jersey individual: Mark James 2, Tony Maddock 3.
CI pairs: Rob Davidson and Jason Allez 3, Eddie Le Bailly and Andy Faulconbridge 2.
President’s Cup: Jason Allez, Paul Sheppard and Chantal de la Mare 0, Eddie Le Bailly, Andy Faulconbridge and Angie Le Bailly 3.

CI four-aside: Derek Leale, Phil Dodd, Kevin Brouard, Chris Smith 0, Dave Eusebini, Steve Eusebini, Martin Finn, Jeff Lotherington 3.
