Sell off utilities, says Chief Minister
Thursday 27th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
CHIEF Minister Frank Walker wants the Island to sell off its States-owned utility companies to raise millions for the Treasury coffers.
And he believes that privatisation should take place sooner rather than later, providing that any sale can be proved to be in the public interest.
Senator Walker told an audience of 250 business leaders at a Chamber of Commerce lunch yesterday that he would support a sell-off of Jersey Telecom, the JEC, Jersey Water and possibly Jersey Airport.
He said that an examination of the benefits and downsides of selling off utility companies was included in the States Strategic Plan, but he added that there were no specific plans to do so at the moment.
