St John votes against new homes plan

Thursday 27th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

PARISHIONERS in St John are less likely to see a development of homes for the over-55s going up in fields on Route du Nord, following a parish meeting yesterday.

Around 115 people attended the meeting at St John’s Parish Hall and decided that alternative sites should be found for such a development.

Developer Barry Noel wanted to build around 40 homes on Fields 605 and 608.

The Constable, Richard Dupré, organised the meeting to find out what parishioners thought of the idea and whether they might be interested in buying some of the homes to let to parishioners.

The Constable said many parishioners were in favour of providing more homes for the over 55s, but cast 45 votes to 24 in favour of looking for other places to put them.

He said that a number of those present had also abstained from taking part in the vote.
