Superyacht spurs shipping finance call
Thursday 27th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE £8m pound superyacht that is docked in the Island has caught the eye of Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf.
Senator Ozouf is keen to attract more luxurious vessels to Jersey by kick-starting a shipping finance industry.
Unlike other off-shore centres, like the Isle of Man, Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, the Bahamas and Barbados, the Channel Islands do not boost their economy by registering commercial vessels.
On a recent business trip to the Middle East, Senator Ozouf was asked about registering ships in Jersey.
He is now looking at ways in which the Island can attract more vessels like Catwalk, the 40-metre German yacht that featured in yesterday’s JEP.
