JCG reach national football finals

JERSEY College for Girls Prep footballers will represent the Channel Islands and the South-west region at the National championships in June.

It is the first time ever a Channel Islands’ school has reached an English School’s FA’s National 6-a-side final – boys or girls – since first entering the competition over a decade ago.

James Paul, PE co-ordinator at JCG Prep, said: ‘We could not believe it when we were told we had finished top of our group so the final match between the two group winners was academic.

‘We travelled not knowing the standard of the other schools.

We went out to enjoy the football and the day out.

Our girls were excellent.

‘Most of the teams were on a par, the standard was good and it was great to see our girls doing cross-overs and turning tidily.

‘Can we win the national title? I really don’t know.

We’ll go for two days next time with the same view, to enjoy the football and the trip and we’ll wait and see what happens.’ JCG drew 1-1 with Gloucestershire and then 0-0 with Cornwall before defeating Oxfordshire 4-0.

In their last match they had two win by a two-goal margin to win the group and they did so defeating Hampshire 3-1.

Following a goal-less draw after extra time between the two group winners, Aloeric Primary School won a sudden-death shoot-out.

JCG Prep were represented by Amelia Jones, Romy Smith, Lucy Le Lièvre, Anna Fenton, Laura Singleton, Helena Eeles, Georgia Stevenson and Lauren Le Moignan.
