Junior football: St Martin/SCF make it a double

Friday 28th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

ST MARTIN/SCF completed a Lloyds TSB U18 Division II league and cup double on Sunday.

With the President’s Trophy already in the trophy cabinet, the Saints defeated Grouville 5-1 at St Martin to win the Oaklands Trophy.

Challengers St Clement, the reigning champions, could only raise eight players for their final game which they lost 4-0 at home to St Ouen.

Have St Clement won they would still have finished second behind St Martin.

David Streets (two), Ryan Hodgson, Rhys Webb and Ben Cesar scored St Martin’s goals with Luke Ollivier replying.

Nathan Strzlecki hit a hat-trick and Kyle Hampshire a single in St Ouen’s victory at St Clement.

Dave Melton, St Clement’s manager, said: ‘We had an outside chance of winning the title but unfortunately we only had eight players.

‘We had five regulars missing because of a course, two on a school trip, a suspension and a broken foot.

I brought in three under-16s to make up the numbers then on the day three don’t turn up.

‘They’ve let their team-mates down but full credit to the eight they were fantastic.

We could well have sneaked a result, we held them at bay for 63 minutes!’ Jersey Scottish moved six points clear at the top of under-16 Division I after scoring seven times without reply against St Paul’s in the league at Les Quennevais.

Jack Boyle notched a brace and Calum Brennan, Jordan McBride, Declan Sowney, Arthur Illingworth and Alex Gee singles.

Scottish will take the title – and complete a league and Eric Amy Cup double – if they avoid defeat in their final divisional game against First Tower at La Hague Manor on Sunday.

St Ouen collected maximum points as a result of St John scratching on Sunday morning and they, too, have a championship decider this weekend when victory over Sporting Academics would secure them the U16 Division II title.

A draw and Accies will take the silverware.
