New forms for Island’s electors

Saturday 29th April 2006, 12:00AM BST.

FORMS to gather names for new electoral registers are being delivered to 40,000 Island homes.

By law new registers have to be prepared for 1 July 2006 and names will only be included if a return is made to the relevant parish hall.

Forms have to be completed and returned by 1 June so that the registers can be ready for 1 July.

Although ‘rolling registers’ were introduced in 2002, they have to be compiled from scratch every three years.

Unless a return is made a person will not be included on the new registers.

A major campaign held last year to ensure that as many people as possible were eligible to vote in the Senatorial and Deputies’ elections resulted in more than 54,400 registering to vote.
