Race for your life!

Monday 15th May 2006, 12:00AM BST.

MORE than 1,200 women of all ages took part in the Race for Life yesterday morning and created a wonderful community atmosphere during the event.

Held in aid of cancer research, the 5 km run or walk from La Frégate to Bel Royal and back attracted a host of supporters who were taking part for a variety of especially personal reasons.

Among the walkers were cancer patients who had received treatment and wanted to show their support by taking part.

The challenge was repeated at the course in the afternoon with 150 men taking part in the Run for Moore event in memory of former England captain Bobby Moore, who died from bowel cancer aged 51 in 1993.

For this event, the majority of those taking part wore red T-shirts bearing the No 6 which was Bobby Moore’s position.
