Centenier is arrested by States police
Friday 30th June 2006, 12:00AM BST.
ST Martin Centenier Mike Messiter was arrested and questioned for nearly six hours by States police officers after arriving at Police Headquarters thinking he was going to discuss a case.
And as the honorary policeman was categorised as an ‘annexe B’ prisoner he was prevented from making a call to his wife or honorary colleagues to inform them of his arrest.
Centenier Messiter was arrested on 15 June and questioned by CID officers on suspicion of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The 63-year-old honorary officer, who has been a Centenier for over four years, was released without charge.
The States police say a file will be submitted to the Attorney General, who will decide whether any further action should be taken.
The Centenier’s treatment left St Martin Constable John Germain fuming when he learnt about the arrest.
