Elderly care cost plans for States debate next year

PLANS for funding elderly care in the future will be published in the autumn and are likely to be debated in the States early next year.
The plans, likely to include recommendations for the introduction in the Island of a compulsory insurance scheme to cover elderly health care provision, will be part of the overall Health Strategy.
Health Minister Stuart Syvret gave the likely time scale after Deputy Roy Le Hérissier called this week for the debate to be held as soon as possible.
The Deputy said a decision was needed because of the predicted escalating cost of elderly care provision in the years ahead.
