All’s well that ends well on French trading front

Monday 3rd July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THE entente cordiale between travelling French traders and the Health Department was restored over the weekend.

Traders at the Out of the Blue festival around the Albert Pier displayed their product titles, lists of ingredients and prices all translated into English.

In May the traders felt the heavy hand of the law at the Foire de Jersey at the Royal Showground, where Public Health officers told the traders that their food signs must be translated into English and that all ingredients on wrapped products had to be displayed in English.

The demands caused a lot of upset with the traders, who threatened never to return to the Island.

However, after some careful negotiation by Maison de Normandie’s Aurélie Leroy, the traders agreed to return and all went well this weekend.
