Weekend League side move closer to Premier title

SPORTING Club could win the NatWest Weekend League Premier Division title next weekend if they beat Romerils in their top-of-the-table game.
Both clubs collected a maximum 40 points from Saturday’s victories against champions Old Victorians and Springfield leaving Sporting Club 16 points ahead of second-placed Romerils with two matches each remaining.
Following next weekend’s meeting at Les Quennevais, Sporting Club face Springfield in their final game while Romerils oppose Old Victorians.
Sporting Club beat Old Victorians by 15 runs on Saturday following a run-fest at FB1.
Five half-centuries were scored in the match with Steve Carlyon falling just eight runs short of a deserved century.
Carlyon scored eight boundaries and in an opening partnership with Matt Hague the pair put on 140 for the first wicket.
Hague went for 61 after five boundaries and one six, bringing Justin Le Fort to the crease.
Le Fort struck six fours before he was fifth man out for 55.
Jason Carpenter bludgeoned 25 runs off eight scoring shots, two 6s and one 4, taking SCF to 290 for eight in 45 overs.
Captain Chris Jones took three wickets for 40 runs in seven overs.
Peter Gough followed up last week’s century with 89 more runs for OVs as the finished just 15 runs short, batting a man short with just three balls remaining.
Ward Jenner hit four boundaries in his 51 and together with Gough (11 boundaries) they put on a fourth-wicket partnership off 83.
Nick Jewell was SCF leading wicket-taker with three for 62 in 8.3 overs.
Romerils cruised to nine-wicket win against Springfield at Les Quennevais after dismissing the division’s bottom club for 68 runs in 34.5 overs.
Skipper Pete Blackburn was most productive with four wickets for 19 runs in 8.5 overs while Martyn Waite returned two overs, two wickets, two maidens for no runs! Romerils reached their target in 7.3 overs with Mark Saralis cracking six fours and two sixes to finish undefeated on 49.
Caesareans kept their Channel Islands KO Cup qualification alive after defeating St Ouen by 11 runs at Les Quennevais.
Jules Nolli hit an unbeaten 44 as Caesareans totalled 187 in 45 overs, Paul Horton taking three wickets for the Saints.
Nolli also did the damage with the ball taking four for 31, his nine-over spell including two maidens.
Mark Tribe top-scored for St Ouen with 38, including four boundaries and one six.
Myles Landick’s 57 (five 4s and two 6s) was in vain for Romerils 2nds yesterday in Division I as his side were defeated by two wickets by Sporting Club 2nds at Les Quennevais.
Greg Forster took three wickets for the winners for 27 runs in 4.4 overs.
