Eyesore? No, it’s just free maintenance

GRAFFITI at the Esplanade car park ‘helps with the maintenance’ and is being left on the wall to discourage young people from painting on more, according to Transport Minister Guy de Faye.
Transport and Technical Services have painted over the offensive parts of the graffiti on the underpass, which takes drivers out onto the Esplanade, but do not want to get rid of the rest of it because they fear it would become a ‘blank canvas’ for more impromptu paint work.
Deputy de Faye said it would be the fault of the Jersey Evening Post if giving publicity to the graffiti led to more problems.
‘While one doesn’t wish to encourage it, I recognise that there are different sorts, and in some respects, I know that there are people who abhor it and think it is disgusting, while there are other people who admire the artistic quality of some graffiti work.’
