DIY clean-up at filthy fort

A FAMILY so disgusted by rubbish strewn around St Aubin’s Fort did their own clean-up this week because no official authority was prepared to accept responsibility for keeping the area clean.
Richard and Jan Chapman and their ten-year-old daughter Lucy, who live at Peterborough Garage in St Aubin, spent over 90 minutes filling eight black bags with all sorts of litter, having driven out to the fort at low tide.
Mrs Chapman said they decided to do the clean-up themselves, as they had contacted a number of authorities and none of them believed the affected area to be their responsibility to keep tidy.
