Ingouvilles return to trace their heritage
Thursday 6th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE Island ‘footprints’ of the old family name of Ingouville – a name which has now died out in Jersey – were being traced last weekend by descendants and first cousins Carlos and Luis Ingouville, from South America.
During their time in Jersey they paid a visit to the Maritime Museum, where the Victoria Cross medal of George Ingouville is displayed, and visited Ingouville Place, named after a George Ingouville who was a property developer of the day.
Ann Street, Charles Street and Phillips Street are all named after his children, and the Georgetown area of town is named after George Ingouville, and not after any of the British King Georges.
