Move to involve schools more in the workplace
Thursday 6th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
SIX local businesses are helping Year 12 students at Jersey College for Girls and Victoria College to undertake an end-of-year project.
Jersey Telecom, Jersey Pottery, Aspen Estates, the Royal Yacht Hotel, Le Riche Group, and Offsoft Ltd have been under the spotlight in the past three weeks as the six teams of students – who have just completed their business studies AS-level course – set about devising a strategy for the firms in the short to medium term.
The challenge includes interviewing a senior manager, researching the business and its environment, analysing the business and then presenting the strategy and business report, to be judged by a senior manager.
The tasks have been set by Ben Bennett, head of business studies at JCG, who is also taking up a challenge of his own next year as head of work-related learning – a new role which is designed to involve the whole school in the world of work.
