Spartans set their sights on UK

Thursday 6th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THE Jersey Spartan club championships at FB Fields at the weekend proved an excellent run-out for those athletes who compete in the English Schools Athletics championships over the next two days in Gateshead.

Thrower Jamie Stevenson produced another personal best throw in the discus event which is also a provisional U17 club record distance of 49.10m, and Zane Duquemin managed another discus throw at just under the 40m mark.

Sprinter Stephen Prosser’s 11 second 100m win was confirmation that he has recovered fully from the cruciate knee ligament injury; Jason Fox missed a new 2.01m high jump PB by a whisker and Amy Dingle long-jumped beyond 5m yet again.

Will Perchard produced an under 52-second 400m run to continue his progression towards an under-50 sec time.

One of the highlights of the younger age-groups was the U11 girls 60m sprint.

The only event which required heats, it was won by Catherine Le Ruez.

The boys’ event was won by Jack Dallas-Chapman who then won the 600m, just ahead of Cameron Donaldson.

Grace Bravery won the long jump with a 4.33m leap, and finished second in the 100m and 200m, to Lauren Le Moignan and Amelia Jones respectively.

In the sprint hurdles U15 category Amy Dingle showed a clean pair of heels and Jess Wildman knocked 0.5 sec off her 100m PB in which, in a merged race, she chased brother Nick to the line.

Wildman then outsprinted favourite Nicola Milner to win the 800m.

Junior runner Toby Edwards again produced an impressive performance in the 5,000m, leading the seniors home in a time of 17.10 min.

Elliott Dorey came very close to a new track record when he finished just 0.6 sec shy in the U13 boys 1,500m time.

Jersey Spartan AC are sponsored by the Royal Bank of Canada.
