SUNSHINE and a clean one- to two-foot swell with an offshore breeze added up to good conditions for youngsters competing in round two of the AIB/Freedom junior series at the Watersplash last weekend

Newcomer Michael Spittal’s first competitive endeavour, in the U16s, was short-lived as he came up against the experience of Jake Powell and James Vautier, but he will certainly be back.

The title went to James Walker who, reacting well to the drop in tide and surf, managed to pick up waves for the crucial turns.

The U14 boys’ title went to Nathan Elms, who really got to grips with the required manoeuvres while the U14 girls’ event was dominated by Delia Baker.

The novice final for U10s or newcomers to the junior series was notable for the stylish surfing of the Brewer family, but Leo Carney pipped all three.

Brad Ferguson won the U12 event with some high-scoring waves and in the girls’ U19 Stephanie Seymour was a clear winner.

Longboarder Jack Seymour made it a family double, ahead of Scott Letherbarrow; and Josh Letherbarrow won the U18s Novice: 1, Leo Carney; 2, Gus Brewer; 3, Kitty Brewer; 4, Willoughby Brewer.
