LA MOYE junior Seb Brown leads the Rosscot 72-hole Strokeplay Championship after scoring a level-par 70 yesterday at Royal Jersey.

The much-improved youngster, who has returned to the Island from the United States where he is studying at a golf college in South Carolina, has a one-stroke lead from Royal Jersey trio Matthew Parkman, the current Channel Islands champion, Paul Le Chevalier and Alex Guelpa.

One shot further back is trophy holder Richard Ramskill, of La Moye.

Brown was out in a one-under-par 35 after birdies at the fifth and ninth holes while he bogeyed the 398-yard seventh.

He was back in a one-over score of 35 after a dropping shots at the 11th and 14th, both par-4s, before finishing with another birdie at the 18th.

Jersey Golf Union secretary Bob White said: ‘Scores were a little down compared to our Tuesday League scores this week but that was because the wind got up yesterday afternoon.

‘However there were still some good performances with the juniors having a good day.

‘Seb is the leader while Royal Jersey’s Andrew Rafferty (15) heads the net section on 67 points.

La Moye’s Chris Young also impressed with a gross 75 net 70.’ In-form Royal Jersey junior Gyles Robin is three strokes behind Brown in the championship while being just one stroke behind Rafferty in net section.

The championship continues today with the top 16 and tied scores qualifying for the final 36 holes tomorrow.
