Jersey boat first home in Sark row

Monday 10th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THE 40th Sark to Jersey rowing race featured a fixed-seat boat crossing the line first, for the first time since staggered starts were introduced.

Guy Hinks and crew completed the race in 2 hours 19.43 min while former trans-Atlantic rower John Searson and partner Paul Le Gros retained their men’s pair (slide) title.

Fastest boat to cover the distance was Guernsey’s Thames River men’s (slide) four in 2.04.30.

The Class of 67 men’s fixed four, with crew-members who had taken part in the first race, then never rowed since until they decided to enter this race, finished in 3.03.55.

First women’s crew to cross the line were the Jersey Moore Stephens four (slide) in 2.19.34.

Guernsey rowing legend Brian Staples who has rowed in every race since the event began, with the Hash Anchors crew, finished in a time of 2.15.52.
