July drink drivers targeted
Monday 10th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE police today launched their annual summer clampdown on drink-drivers.
Until the end of July, both States and honorary officers will be targeting those who flout the law.
They will be manning roadside checks across the Island in response to statistics showing that more people are caught drinking and driving in July than during any other month.
P insp Mark Coxshall said: ‘Everyone’s response to alcohol is different – how long it takes to go through your system, how quickly you become drunk.
Because of this, there is no safe amount of alcohol a person can drink, and then drive.
‘Summer can be a danger point for some drivers.
Summer parties and barbecues can mean that it isn’t easy to keep an eye on what you are drinking.
We would urge anyone who is thinking of having a drink not to drive.’
