Smoking ban ‘will hit pubs’
Tuesday 11th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE future of traditional Island pubs is under threat from the smoking ban.
To be introduced this Christmas in Jersey, the ban is just a week old in Guernsey and has already hit the takings of smaller pubs hard.
Both of Jersey’s major breweries are concerned that the same will happen here once the smoking ban comes into force on New Year’s Day.
Randalls managing director David Le Quesne said that pubs where many of the clientele – and the staff – smoked were certain to lose business when the ban came.
CI Hospitality chief executive Ed Daubeney is also concerned for the smaller pubs run by his company.
