Gun siege ends after seven hours

Friday 14th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

POLICE officers armed with sub-machine guns provided cover as colleagues stormed a flat in Grands Vaux yesterday at the climax of a tense seven-hour siege.

After repeated attempts at negotiation, unarmed officers entered the home of Lee de Mouilpied at around 4.30 pm and he was overcome with CS spray.

The order was given to go in after officers received intelligence that the 30-year-old was not holding any weapons at that time.

No shots were fired during the siege and no-one was injured.

Officers found an air-weapon, two ball-bearing guns and a sword in the ground-floor flat in Valley Court where Mr de Mouilpied lived.

Today he was in police custody awaiting further questioning by detectives.
