Sex-change Islanders to be given equal rights
Friday 14th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
PEOPLE who have had a full sex change will be able to legally marry as women under a new law.
The Gender Recognition Law will also enable men who have become women to retire earlier and claim benefits available to females.
The reverse will apply in rarer cases in which women become men.
Law drafting time has been allocated for next year, so the new law could be on the statute book by the end of 2007.
