Islanders lap it up at Relay for Life
Monday 17th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
OVER 400 adults and children dedicated 24 hours over the weekend to raising funds for cancer research – and they enjoyed every minute of it.
The eighth Relay for Life took place at the FB Fields in St Clement and the event, held in bright sunshine before the big heat of yesterday afternoon, proved to be yet another success.
Starting at noon on Saturday, the 22 teams taking part had already pitched the tents which were to be their own individual ‘headquarters’ for the 24-hour festival.
Taking part in the Lap of Hope were up to 30 men and women who had been diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives.
Their journey marked a milestone of motivation and unity for themselves and those in a similar position.
The Lieut-Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway, and Mrs Ridgway paid their first visit to the FB Fields and joined in the lively spirit of the event.
