Cricket:Scratching around for points
Wednesday 19th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
TWO scratched matches ruined last night’s latest round of Division I fixtures in the NatWest Evening Cricket League, with leaders Sporting Club Franูais benefitting the most.
Both SCF and Air Conditioning Jersey gained 16 points without playing as Beeches and St Ouen, respectively, failed to raise a team against them.
St Ouen, who were in second spot, now slip to third with Air Conditioning now the closest to the leaders, 11 points behind SCF’s 90 point total.
The only team to earn points last night were Abacus, who beat Pentagon by 27 runs at the FB Fields.
Abacus set a target of 136, with Richard Robinson top scoring on 49.
Suthan added a quick 30 runs, including three 6s, with Peter Canham ending up 30 not out – his highlight being a 6 off the bowling of Ryan Driver.
Not the best of nights for Driver as the opener perished off the clever bowling of Alan Lesbirel, caught by Simon Parker for just five runs.
Richard Parker finished with the best bowling figures for Abacus, three for 31, as Pentagon struggled to 109 off the 12 overs.
