Old Victorians’ U13 cricket triumph
Wednesday 19th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE first Jersey under-13s cricket league has been won by Old Victorians.
They beat Caesarean by four runs in their final game after setting a target of 168.
Jack Averty finished top scorer for the winners, notching an impressive 30 not out and helping his side to lift the Lord’s Taverners’ sponsored trophy.
However, Joe Mayes scored a valiant 44 not out for Caesarean and almost slogged his team to victory although they fell just shy in the end, reaching 164.
OVs’ captain, Michael Renouf, was presented the championship trophy by John Taylor of the Lord’s Taverners.
More than 100 youngsters have been competing in a league which director of cricket Chris Minty wants to expand in 2007.
He said: ‘The league has been a tremendous success.
It has proved so popular we want to extend it next year.’ In a separate match, SCF beat a battling Grainville after setting a target of 116 for 6.
The secondary school fell short of that figure by just one run, scoring 115 before losing their last wicket.
The winning side was made up of Hugh Blaine, Jacob Mudimer, Michael Renouf, Martin Perkins, Jamie Kenyon, Jack Averty, Jordon Herbert, D Bisson, Ashley Morris and R Watts.
