Islanders serve as Lebanon evacuates
Saturday 22nd July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
IT has emerged that more Islanders are serving on ships helping to evacuate Britons from Lebanon.
David Breé (19) is on HMS Gloucester and Natasha O’Brien (26) is on board the aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious.
HMS Gloucester has been ferrying thousands of people from the Lebanese capital Beirut to the Cypriot port of Limassol.
David, who is a former Les Quennevais pupil, is on his maiden trip on the ship.
His father, John Brée, said that he passed out just over a year ago and has been on ship three months.
Natasha O’Brien had the rare honour of steering aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious to the Indian Ocean when she headed out to start her latest tour of duty that has led her to Lebanon.
The vessel was supposed to have docked in Portsmouth yesterday but the ship’s crew learnt last Saturday evening while in Gibraltar they would lead a fleet of six ships responsible for evacuating thousands of Britons from Lebanon.
