Back comes the big heat
Tuesday 25th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
A HEATWAVE returned to the Island this week with today’s maximum temperature likely to be 32นC.
It’s going to be hot overnight, too – a minimum of 19นC means that those who find it more difficult to sleep in hot weather could be in for another restless night.
Although this week is unlikely to beat the maximum of 32.9นC reached on Tuesday 19 July, the heat is certainly back – and it can lead to great discomfort for babies, the elderly and animals.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Rosemary Geller advised the Island to ‘go continental’ and make a point of closing their curtains and blinds during the day so that rooms remained more cool.
‘People on the Continent cool their homes by closing the blinds and shutters, and it does tend to keep the inside temperature down,’ she said.
