Campaign to expose the drug dealers
Tuesday 25th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY Crimestoppers have unveiled their new campaign aimed at naming and shaming drug dealers.
THE new press campaign includes a leaflet to be distributed Islandwide, encouraging Islanders to name dealers in their communities, The front of the leaflet reads: ‘Drug dealers don’t care where dirty needles end up.
Do you?’ The leaflet, which follows on from the organisation’s campaign showing the decline of a heroin addict over seven years, depicts a child about to pick up a used syringe.
Crimestoppers Board chairman Steven Hunt said: ‘We fear for the young people in our Island and are increasingly aware of the other forms of crime that arise out of drug addiction.’ The leaflet is to be distributed by parish officials and honorary police among others, who will target schools and communities with the guarantee of anonymity, in return for information regarding names, places and times of deals that they may be aware of.
