Belle Vue ‘care home’ land to be sold

A PIECE of land with permission to build a 60-bed residential home and doctor’s surgery on it is to be sold by the States.

The field, at Belle Vue, Les Quennevais, St Brelade, is no longer required by Health, so the Property Holdings division of the States has decided to put it up for sale.

Despite Health announcing that it no longer intends to build the multi-million pound care home, the planning permission remains attached to the site and any purchaser of the field will have the right to start developing.

But it is understood that before putting the field up for general sale, Property Holdings are to consult planning officials to determine exactly what the laws will allow to be built on the site.

The result will determine the final value of the 4.9 vergées or 2.2 acres of land, which lies to the south of St Brelade’s football pitch.

The site was developed in the late 1990s to provide first-time and social rented housing.

Originally, the Belle Vue masterplan identified the remaining parcel of land for community use, and the options that were considered included a branch library, crèche, care home and medical centre.
