Javelin star off to ‘Mini Olympics’
Thursday 27th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE Channel Islands will have three representatives at the British Schools Games – a ‘mini Olympics’ initiative – in Glasgow in September.
Two of them will be Jersey throwers, with talented intermediate javelin thrower Becky Slater joining the English schools intermediate shot champion Jamie Stevenson for the prestigious event that is designed to help the nation’s future Olympians gain experience.
Also an outstanding hockey player, Slater is coached by athletics development officer Andrew Winnie with UK coach John Hillier also giving guidance.
Stevenson and Slater are joined by Guernsey sprint star Kimberly Gleeson.
All three will be in action this weekend as the Channel Islands AC compete in the British Jubilee Cup plate semi-final in Derby.
