Bays race named after cycling stalwart

Friday 28th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.

THE Island’s toughest road race of the year will be dedicated to the memory of Tony Richomme, who died suddenly just before he was due to travel to the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, as cycle team manager.

The annual Round-the-Bays cycle race on Sunday will start at West Park at 7.30 am and take in the climbs at Ghost Hill, Mont es Croix, Corbière, L’Etacq, Grève de Lecq, Mourier, Bonne Nuit, Bouley Bay, Rozel and Fliquet.

After encircling St Catherine’s rock the riders will then take in Mont de la Mare before heading past St Saviour’s Hospital and Hougue Bie to finish at La Rue du Trot near Maufant.

The winning rider will be presented with the new Richomme Memorial Shield by Elaine Richomme.
