Fancy a short break at Seymour Tower?
Friday 28th July 2006, 12:00AM BST.
THE Jersey Heritage Trust want to let more Islanders and visitors take short breaks at Seymour Tower.
They want stays limited to two nights each so more people spend time at the tower in the Royal Bay of Grouville.
The trust are proposing a new policy for the tower – part of the £800,000 Coastal Fortifications project – so up to seven visitors would pay £100 per night, but would have to pay an extra £100 to have an experienced guide to take them to and from the tower.
Up until last year Seymour Tower was subject to a private lease and the public could have access only when it was not occupied.
If the public back a consultation proposal issued today, the new rules will take effect from 12 August.
The Jersey Heritage Trust have consulted groups including the Police, the Fire and Rescue Service and Health and Safety to make sure that stays at the tower will be safe.
