HORSE RACING: THE Jersey Race Club are hoping that Kieren Fallon, banned from riding in England following a police charge in a race-fixing case, will compete at Les Landes on either 13 or 28 August.

Leading trainer, and a friend of Fallon, one of the UK’s top jockeys, Joan Le Brocq, said: ‘As long as he can race under his Irish licence there’s no problem with him racing here in Jersey, although if they take that licence away, there will be a problem.

‘If he does race in Jersey, it’s more likely that it will be on Sunday (13 August) as I’d expect him to have more racing opportunities on the Bank Holiday Monday.

We are hoping he’ll race here, but at the moment we just don’t know.’ On behalf of the Jersey Race Club Josephine Reed echoed Le Brocq’s words saying: ‘If he were to come over, it would be tremendous for racing.

Carters secure eighth spot HOBIE CATS: Jersey sailors Laurence (10) and David Carter were pleased with a strong eighth place in the Open class of the World Hobie Dragoon championship final in Cangas, Spain on Friday.

The father and son combination were in second place in the last race before a bad tacking manouevre cost them dear.

In the junior category Thomas Harris and Laura Jane Carter finished 15th overall, in challenging racing conditions.

GOLF: Jorge Moniz won the Demi Golf Society’s G & S De Sousa Shield at St Clement GC on Saturday, with 45 points off his nine handicap.

David Le Duc was second with 36 points off 18 handicap.

GOLF: Five handicapper Harry Steel, a junior, won La Moye GC’s McKenzie Cup on Saturday with 41 points, one better than Alan Rous, 20 handicap, and two better than William Lennox, 16 handicap.

PETANQUE: Dave and Ruth Pérrée won the Carrefour PC’s Married Couples event on Saturday, beating six other couples with their record of four wins (+20).

Lol and Daphne Thérin were second (4 and +10), with Dave and Barbara Grover, the sponsors, recording four wins +four.

BOWLS: Skip Frank Bisson, Frank Doublet, Joe Hamon and Harry Houguez won St Brelade Bowls Club’s Tostevin Trophy played yesterday at St Brelade.

Bisson’s quartet edged out Fred Helleur, Frank Guillaume, Margaret Gunton and Iris de Gruchy on shot-difference, +17 to +4, after both teams accumulated eight points.

GOLF: Jimmy Muir and Mick Corbel scored 50 Stableford points to win Royal Jersey’s Jimmy Stones Memorial Salvers competition at Grouville yesterday.

Colin Taylor and Manny Canas placed second with 48 points, one ahead of Martin Viney and Barry Phillips.

SAILING: Australia Hobie 16 team members Berlinda Zanesio and Clare Lithgo, in Jersey prior to attending the European championships in Quiberon next week, won the RCIYC’s Summer Breeze Series races in St Aubin’s Bay yesterday.

Zanesio, a former World No 2 steered the boat to victory in both A races.

Darren Stower and Mike Winspeare were second, with Gordon Burgis and Ken Snell third.

B Fleet winners were Matthew Dale and Francesca Eddy.

Emilie Harris and crew Rhuari O’Brien won the Dragoon class.

SHOOTING: Daniel Richardson won the first stage of the Jersey Rifle Association’s W T Marett shoot at Crabbé yesterday, also winning the Dragon Cup for the U25s with his 105.16.Cliff Mallett was second with 105.15.

SOFTBALL: Barclays League Softball results at Les Quennevais, Div I: Flyers 5, Barlcays Niners 12.

Div II: Barclays Blue Sox 0, Falcons 15.

Interdivisional: Serco Cubs 39, Crills Rough Diamonds 10.

PETANQUE: Lawrence, Mick and Ian Rondel won the PBS Men’s Triples at the Jersey Pétanque Club at the weekend, scoring ten wins out of ten.

Ladies winners were Rita Le Brocq, Beryl Vibert and Jenny Bowyer with six wins out of seven.

FOOTBALL: St Brelade 4, Magpies 3; Jersey Wanderers 1, Trinity 5; St Paul’s 6, Guernsey Rovers 0; Grouville 0, Jersey Scottish 1.

GOLF: Jimmy W Brown won St Clement’s Golf Club’s Stableford Cup yesterday at St Clement after returning 44 points.

Second was Alan Allison on 41.
