Chamber urges firms to recycle
Thursday 31st August 2006, 12:00AM BST.
COMPANIES are being encouraged by the Chamber of Commerce to introduce their own recycling policies and reduce office and shop waste.
In the Chamber’s latest newsletter to members, States assistant recycling officer Ana Carvalho said that 60 per cent of Island waste was generated by businesses.
The advice she gives members is part of the move by the recycling department to work with the Chamber to encourage businesses to introduce more environmentally friendly practices.
A recent survey showed that 60 per cent of waste produced by the finance sector was paper waste.
Businesses are being asked to consider switching their office waste contractor who collects paper for incineration to one who provides a secure recycling service.
