Plémont: £10 a plot?

Thursday 31st August 2006, 12:00AM BST.

ISLANDERS are being asked to save Plémont by buying up the land in chunks.

An appeal has been launched by the National Trust for Jersey asking people to buy a notional piece of the headland in an attempt to return the site of the old holiday camp to nature.

Pledges from £10 for one square foot up to £5,000 for a square perch (about 30 square yards) are being invited.

The aim is to raise £5 million and offer it to owner Trevor Hemmings.

If the appeal fails, Islanders will have the option of forwarding their funds to the Trust’s Coastline Campaign or getting their money back.

A millionaire Jersey resident, Mr Hemmings has just released his latest plans for the site, put together by BDK Architects.

They propose a development of 36 homes in the style of traditional Jersey hamlets, but are yet to be the subject of a planning application.
