Weather may dampen New Year’s Eve spirits
Saturday 30th December 2006, 12:00AM GMT.
ROUGH weather may dampen spirits on New Year’s Eve in Jersey this year – but at least it won’t be as bad as in the UK.
The Meteorological Department say that high winds and rain are on the cards for Sunday night but that Jersey will escape the appalling weather expected across England, Scotland and Wales.
The UK is set for storms tonight and tomorrow with 80 mph gusts in the worst-affected areas – thought to be Scotland and parts of Wales.
Jersey will have a maximum temperature of 11นC and the wind is expected to be strong to gale-force.
‘It’s going to be a windy night, but it won’t be as bad as England.
The mainland is going to get it very bad,’ a Met Office spokesman said yesterday.
There will be some rain in Jersey and it will be on the windy side, but nothing as severe as parts of England and Scotland.’
