21 held as New Year high spirits boil over

DISORDER and violence marred the Island’s New Year’s Eve celebrations on Sunday, with 21 people arrested in the hours after midnight.
Soon after the bells had tolled in 2007, the States police were called to deal with a number of noisy parties, domestic disruptions and brawls on the streets of St Helier. They say that more than half of those who were arrested for disorder or for minor offences involving violence were in or near licensed premises, and 19 of the 21 people were in the town area.
