Football:Holders ease through to last four of Trinity Shield
Tuesday 2nd January 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
GROUVILLE play St Saviour tonight and St Ouen meet holders St Clement tomorrow in football’s Trinity Shield semi-finals.
The quartet all came through first-round matches on Saturday, played in wet and windy conditions, with St Clement recording the easiest win – 8-0 away to Trinity.
Scott Healey led the goal charge with a hat-trick and there were also singles for Dave Le Roux, Jerry O’Shea, Sean Anderton, Dave Watson and Matt Addison.
St Saviour, beaten finalists last season, ran out 5-1 victors at St Saviour against St Peter, all the goals coming after half-time.
Craig Leitch grabbed a brace and Luc Le Mière, Glen Durrans and Jon Carter singles for the hosts, with Nigel Crocker replying for the visitors.
Jamie Smith bagged St John’s consolation in a 4-1 defeat at St Ouen.
Scott Samson netted twice for the winners with James Hewlett and Simon Gilley adding singles.
Grouville took an early lead through Joel Hayward at Le Boulivot against St Brelade, and they missed several good opportunities to add to their score in the first half at Le Boulivot.
St Brelade, now backed by the strong wind, drew level through junior Sam Habin, only for Grouville to move clear again with Richard Stephens and Peter Gough on target, the latter with a penalty kick.
Both semi-finals are to be staged at Les Quennevais with 7.30 pm kick-offs.
The winners will meet in the final, at Springfield on Tuesday 16 January.
