26 mobile phone masts approved

PLANNING Minister Freddie Cohen approved 26 new mobile phone mast applications yesterday.

On the day that the self-imposed six-week moratorium ended, Senator Cohen gave planning permission to all but one of the applications lodged with the department. But the Minister stressed that the applications were approved only on a 12-month temporary basis. If it emerged during the Scrutiny process that emissions from base stations did emit harmful radiation, then he could order the masts to be pulled down.
