UK police to start complaints procedure
Saturday 13th January 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
A SENIOR UK police officer has been assigned to record officially complaints made against deputy police chief Lenny Harper by a local businessman accused and cleared of corruption.
The Deputy Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall police, Tony Melville, will take the lead in organising the first phase of the official complaints procedure to ensure independence. That phase is expected to get under way within weeks when Chief insp Dave Beer, of Devon and Cornwall police’s professional standards department, arrives in the Island to take a statement from Roy Boschat, a local businessman alleged to have offered policemen bribes in return for police vehicle towaway work. Once that statement has been taken, an assessment will be made as to whether or not allegations made by Mr Boschat warrant an official complaint investigation.
