ISLANDERS might end up getting television signals through their phone lines after Jersey becomes the last part of the British Isles to lose the analogue service in 2013.

Economic Development Minister Philip Ozouf has been negotiating with British and French broadcasting authorities to secure the future of the Island’s television signals when the digital switchover takes place. Jersey will be the last place to lose its analogue service, and the proximity of French military air bases means that their communications eat into the available digital bandwidth – making it uncertain on whether a television signal could be broadcast. If no solution is found, only Islanders with satellite receivers will be able to get a television service.
