Disappointing turn-out for La Collette plant meeting
Friday 19th January 2007, 12:00AM GMT.
A MEETING to discuss plans for an energy-from-waste plant at La Collette drew just 14 members of the public last night at St Paul’s Centre.
Transport Minister Guy de Faye said that although he was disappointed with the numbers, he believed that many people just wanted the department to ‘get on with it’ without further delay. He also said it was likely that Havre des Pas residents would attend the next meeting in their own area at the Ommaroo Hotel. One of the main concerns of the evening was voiced by Chris Whitworth, who said he was worried that the department might be rushing into building a large plant when it could turn out to be a white elephant if recycling increased substantially.
